Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub
GRUB menu does not show up at cold boot on Toshiba Portege R500 laptop. GRUB menu is supposed to show after Toshiba's boot logo, but only a line of white dots displays on top of the boot logo. The line of dots moves up and down according to keyboard arrow keys suggesting that the dots are what is supposed to be the highlight in GRUB menu. Selecting a boot menu item works this way i.e. pressing down arrow key once followed by an enter key press does boot the second menu item etc. So GRUB works except for display. None of the text from the GRUB menu displays at all. A forum discussion http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=405515 reports workarounds that work for a period of one or two boots, but eventually the problem returns. Enabling BIOS "Diagnostic mode" or "Boot from LAN" seems to work around the problem, but at a cost of boot up time. These workarounds delay the GRUB loading for tens of seconds or so. The problem is not solved despite the forum topic. The problem seems to occur only on cold boots. Tested on Intrepid and on Jaunty. ** Affects: grub (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- GRUB menu not showing up at cold boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374823 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
