Hello, I do not think this is related to the AMD64 architecture. However, ATI has been bought by AMD and it cannot be said that they have been working seriously on this problem. Nvidia graphic cards have a much better reputation than ATI cards from the drivers point of view - see some comments above: "Successfully changed ATI to nVidia". I am about to do so... hope this helps!
