Public bug reported:
the 'package' question (above) in launchpad has a bug, it doesn't
recognize the version # as a 'package'. how could any of you possibly
think that those of us coming in from a GUI (no knowledge of linux
inards) know anything about the use of a particular package? It
renders the reporting function in 'hardware testing' (good idea but very
incomplete) almost useless for many of us.
The system is a recent p4 based mbd w/ 4GB of ram, the OS install onto the
SATA went fine. The overall plan now is to install win 2k/xp inside of Sun's
VirtualBox ( there isn't a version of this for Ub-09:04, so I can't go to the
latest version). the problem is that the win OS's require the parallel drive
interface. When I found out from VB docs that they don't provide for
installation of the OS's on SATA, I installed the Linux compatible Promise
PCI>ATA controller card (no probbs) The VirtualBox install was great, linux
can see the 300 GB ATA drive, but has classified it as another SCSI, &
therefore can't recognize it.
It has just occurred to me that a complete reinstall w/ all hdwr. in place
might help. I'll try.
