I have the same problem(s), besides theres is no easy way to add/remove pulseaudio or reconfigure it. pulseaudio play sounds in variable speed , and in low quality ,sometimes with hiss on my machine, there is no easy way of getting rid of pulseaudio and using pure ALSA, and say programs to use it and if you want to come back to pulseaudio there is no easy/automatic way to install pulseaudio and configure it. I think it should by as easy as "sudo aptittude install pulseaudio" or "dpke- reconfigure pulseaudio" or something like that. but doing this won't make a good configuration you should go to config files and read some HOWTOs to do that , I wasn't successful even with them.
