Agree with David, OOo 3.1 solves this issue. I had no trouble installing 3.1 the 'Ubuntu way' -- I uninstalled the Ubuntu supported OOo by Synaptic, then I added using Software Sources the link
http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main and installed 3.1 through Synaptic.
