Charlie, thanks for answering. I don't know if it's the only page that causes firefox to crash. I don't think I visit many pages with java applets. If you know some, please point me there, I'll test them.
But even if it's the only page, I don't agree: Firefox may reject a faulty applet or it may, in extremis, crash - but the current behaviour (where even killing it and restarting it does not bring it back to live) is not something to live with.
