Binary package hint: synaptic

I am using Ubuntu 8.10, I can't install samba because it says the
version in the repositories (lubuntu3.5) is newer than the version of I
try to install (lubuntu3.4).

when I try to install samba via synaptic it says: samba:   Depends: 
samba-common (=2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4) but 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.5 is to be installed. 
Then it gives an error.
