Public bug reported:

This occurred with both AMD64 and x86 alternative disks, possibly the
regular install disc as well. When configuring ubuntu-minimal package
the installer would hang. I activated console #2 and checked the
syslog. I had a bizillion messages:

attempt to access beyond end of device
sda1: rw=o, want=511180808, limit=48839202

this occured for sdd1 and sdd2 as well. Ubuntu was being installed to
the primary ide master so the installer shouldn't touch these drives
anyway...

sd[abcd]1 is a raid5 array (250GB linux raid partitions)
sd[cd]2 are both swap partitions (1GB swap partitions)
sd[cd]3 is a raid1 (249GB linux raid partitions

The installation worked with the drives disconnected.

The southbridge sata controller is the ULi 5287 SATA
