Public bug reported:

I think I have found a reproducible way to wreck jaunty on my dell
studio xps laptop:

  1. plug in a 80GB iPod (mounted at /media/ipod)
  2. issue the following command in a gnome terminal: "find /media/ipod -name
\*.mp3 -exec id3v2 -l {} \;"
  3. watch the system become less and less responsive until it freezes and
becomes hung up eventually.

The root cause seems to be some sort of memory leak .. from what I could
make of the syslog (see attachment) after a hard reset it appears that
the kernel simply ran out of memory.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
