Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bash

In Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS (bash version: 3.1-2ubuntu10), when using "echo -n"
(both /bin/echo and the shell built-in) while PS1 is set to a color
prompt, the echo'ed string is not shown; instead, the last n characters
of the prompt are repeated (where n is the length of the echo'ed
string).

This works both in gnome-terminal (version: 2.14.2-0ubuntu1) and in the
virtual console (linux-image-2.6.15-27-686, version: 2.6.15-27.50).

My PS1 is set to:
"${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\033[01;[EMAIL
PROTECTED]:\[\033[01;34m\]\w\[\033[00m\]\$"

tcsh (version: 6.14.00-2) does not show this behavior.

** Affects: bash (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
