I've just tried and, actually, hibernation works all-right. The problem seems to be only with suspension, which seems to be a regression from 8.10 because it did work fine on this computer then.
What happens when I try to suspend activity, either using the gnome-menu or the build-in short-cut of the keyboard, is that the screen blinks a couple of times and then goes dark. But the CPU doesn't stop, I can hear and feel the ventilation and lights that usually when off with the suspension (such as wi-fi and num-lock) are kept on. The main problem being that I'm unable to resume it or even shut-down, having tried (i) Ctrl+Alt+Del; (ii) Ctrl+Alt+Backspace; and (iii) short clicking on the power-button. The only solution was to hard-power-off.
