Public bug reported:

When trying to start the Ubuntu alternate install CD 6.06 on HP dc7700p,
the boot process starts then rapidily hangs.

Some forums around pointed the faulty one to be the bugged Bios on this
hardware.

There are actually two workarounds working (I did test) :
boot with the kernel option 

acpi=off

or

pci=conf1
