This problem exist on the Asus EEE PC-900 (output of `lspci -vvv` of
locally installed jaunty attached).

Even disabling the embedded wlan device in the bios doesn't resolve this
issue.

The output is (after about 4 seconds initializing usb):

ipconfig: eth0: SIOCGIFINDEX: No such device
ipconfig: no devices to configure
/init: .: line 1: can't open /tmp/net-eth0.conf
kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
