The link you refer to is for using a nvidia graphics card, which of course uses the nvidia driver. Since monitor detection is something that happens in the graphics card driver, the fact that the nvidia driver supports DisplayPort does not automatically mean that the intel driver does.
The link suggests that there may be some problems with getting the EDID information for this particular monitor.
