If you are seeing this with acpi-support 0.123, then this is not an
acpi-support issue at all, because 0.123 has no suspend handling of its
own whatsoever.

You say that this is not an issue when suspending via pm-suspend.  Is
this the case even if you set the lid close event to blank screen, close
the lid, and then call pm-suspend?
