Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: openoffice.org
I'm making slideshow (.ppt), where I would like to add images. And I
don't know if images are final, or even they are, why use double the
disk space when images are already in files, and to copy that data into
other document.
So I selected to insert an object from file, selected the image file and
also to link the object to file, so if I update those images, it will
also show up in updated form in the document. Well there is another
problem, that images are centered in image object, so I have to manually
change the position for every image to show up, and adjust the visible
area.
But then I noticed more fatal problem. When I was viewing the directory,
I noticed that preview images disappeared. First I just thought OO had
locked those images, so other programs can't open them even read-only.
But then I noticed that also their size had changed, to 0 bytes. then I
noticed that my document was over 300 kilobytes, and I think it should
be less than 100 with two slides with titles and two linked objects. And
situation stayed the same even I closed all OO programs and documents.
So OO had wiped all data from my image files, and had not linked those
files to objects, it just embedded those files into the document, just
what I wanted to avoid.
