Binary package hint: update-manager
After upgrade form 8.10 to 9.04 I have huge performance regression in update
manager:
When I choose System->Administration->Update Manager, then click to search for
updates, it takes about 15 seconds to download packages' list. After download
notification disappears, nothing happens for about 70-80 seconds! Then next
notification appears for about 1 sec, saying that it is preparing packages'
list.
During this 70-80 seconds "top" indicates almost no cpu usage for
update-manager or anything else. I can move update manager's window but when I
move mouse cursor inside, it changes to round one, which means I have to wait.
I disabled all sources except official main, but there was no change.
Apparently, I have found solution.
When you go to "System->Administration->Update Manager" options, it says, that
it runs "/usr/bin/update-manager". It should run "gksudo
/usr/bin/update-manager" instead. After adding "gksudo", this 70-80 seconds'
wait disappears and Update Manager works flawlessly.
