Thank you for reporting this bug and helping make ubuntu better. We need some 
more information to analyze the cause of this problem. Could you please do the 
following:
1. Add the line 
  Option "ModeDebug" "true"
to the "Device" section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf. Restart X by logging out 
and in again. 
2. Attach the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log here (the ModeDebug option gives a lot 
of useful information in this file).
3. Write the output of `lspci -vvnn` to a file (lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.txt) 
and attach the file here.
4. Write the output of `xrandr --verbose` to a file and attach the file here.

This is probably the same bug as bug 379634, but while collecting the
information it's best to keep the bugs separate.
