[Bug 379810] [NEW] echo corrupts bash charset

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Whenever the contents of the attached, randomly generated Tor authentication 
cookie are echoed to the terminal the character set changes to incomprehensible 
figures. This happens both as a result of cat and Python printing the file's 
contents. Problem persists until terminal window is restarted. Below is a 
sample of the terminal output:

I realize the distribution is a little behind but the bug should be
