OK got a solution although it involved me reformating and loosing everything in windows! great. but anyway managed to figure out making a ubuntu flash drive so to save my cds this should be recommended BTW as it saves money and is faster toooo! it said it would install with windows then trashed the partition. but oh well. after this booted up and reinstalled ubuntu it mended its self
