Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and help improve Ubuntu. It sounds like the issue here is the NVIDIA driver rather than anything that Ubuntu can control, so I'd recommend reporting the issue to NVIDIA or, perhaps, search the NVIDIA Linux forums (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?s&forumid=14) for solutions or workarounds.
