I added the following line to /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane-extras.rules
(I copied it to /etc/udev/rules.d):
SYSFS{idVendor}=="04b8", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0848", MODE="0664",
GROUP="scanner", ENV{libsane_matched}="yes"
This was required to allow non-root users to scan with the Epson Stylus
Office BX300F flatbed scanner. Without this, the scan worked fine with
root only.
