Does anyone know if upgrading to the latest kernel would help?
I'm having the same problem on a Vaio Z750. It's a 64 bit, dual core
with a fresh install of Jaunty (several fresh installs over the last few
days). It locks up and and the leds flash. I can't do anything, even
with REISUB or the off switch. The only way to get out is to unplug the
laptop and remove the battery.
When I try to boot up again, this is the last and first things in the
kernel log:

Whether I can fix the partition with fsck or have to boot to the
installation disk, my user directory is gone.
Whether I go to a later or an earlier kernel, do I have to reinstall
Ubunty, then change the kernel?
