I have the bug too. To recover i usually: 1. Connect to the frozen computer using SSH. 2. Run sudo pm-suspend 3. Enter my password. 4. Wake up the computer. 5. Press Control-Alt-F1
This gives you a text terminal. Note that i have gdm disabled in this set up. Note the following lines at the end of the console output: waiting for x server to shut down Output CRT2 disable success Blank CRTC 0 success Disable CRTC 0 success Disable CRTC memreq 0 success Output CRT1 disable success Blank CRTC 1 success Disable CRTC 1 success Disable CRTC memreq 1 success .......... xinit: X Server slow to shut down, sending KILL signal. waiting for server to die.
