Yes! Daniel's workaround solved my issue. However, I'd suggest a minor refinement. In my case at least, I was able to just use the "use this connection only for resources on this network" and leave the automatic route pushing on. This simplifies managing the routes should the network change, and also seems to prevent the default gateway clobbering.
