Hi Charlie,

here my answers to your questions:

* Is this reproducible?
    yes, everytime I tried

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
I burned an iso image of (x)ubuntu 8.04 and 9.04 and started
installation on my notebook, which has had a windows xp partion on it.
The bug could only be avoided when I installed xubuntu 7.1.

* Which iso image are you using?

    (x)ubuntu 8.04 and 9.04

* Is your disk an internal or external hard disk? Is it USB?
It's an internal hard disk, TOSHIBA MK 4018GAS, 40 GB

* Are you partitioning during the installation or before?
During installation, I did not use any tools besides the ubuntu iso
image.

Question:
could you think of a workaround so that I could install the current
xubuntu ?

Kind regards and good luck,
    Werner

Status in “linux” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
I found out that I could never install (x)ubuntu 8.04 or 9.04 (neither way,
that is using full disk or another partition). It was crashing in the
process of partioning my hard disk.
I then went back to xubuntu 7.1, which did install sucessfully.
I then again tried to do an update and go for xubuntu 9.04.
Again it crashed when trying to write the new split partition to the disk.
My disk is 40GBytes, processor AMD Athlon on a Targa Notebook.
