Public bug reported:
In Ubuntu 9.04 on a Dell XPS Gen 2, my USB flash drives are not mounted
at all. Previously, with earlier versions of Ubuntu, I had an
intermittent problem where flash drives plugged into my monitor's USB
ports were not recognized, but I could get them to be by typing "lsusb".
In this case, plugging USB removable storage doesn't even work when I
plug a USB flash disk directly into one of my computer's USB ports. The
ports I tried are known to be functional, and in fact were even used by
Ubuntu for other purposes. I unplugged an infrared remote USB receiver
recognized by Ubuntu 9.04 and plugged the flash disk into it, and it
still wasn't recognized.
Your help is much appreciated! After a hard drive crash, my Linux
system is my only way of getting work done, and I need to move files
around.
