I don't have any problems setting "π" as a name in my metadata, nor does
Banshee crash when playing the track.
Can you provide specific steps and the problems (error, crash, what you
were expecting to happen) that result from them?
As for the track not changing in-disk, do you have "Write metadata to
files" and "Update file and folder names" checked in Edit | Preferences
(on the General tab)?
