Public bug reported:

Unless specifically and manually changing the setting in the .conkyrc
config file the sidebar will not properly display bandwidth usage. The
poses as a large problem for the Ubuntu RED project, as a conky sidebar
using this technology is a prime feature. That, infact, may not work
with all configurations out of the box. Instead the bandwidth usage
remains at 0 as oppose, to adjusting to the amount being used. I tested
this on Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop Edition.

Example: eth1 in .conkyrc will not display bandwidth usage if the name
of your card is eth0 etc.

Again this poses as a serious problem for Ubuntu RED users and other
users in general.

** Affects: conky (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New

Conky doesn't display bandwith being used by default as it should, often
related to the name of your network device
