Public bug reported:

Headphone jack-sense issue with Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family)
HD Audio Controller (rev 03) in my Vostro 1520. When I plugin my
speakers to the headphone jack, the built-in speakers continue to
produce sound.

Also, I find that I have to turn up my volume to 80% or greater to even
get any sound from my speakers or the built in speakers.
