Public bug reported:

Might be an error with the update of /boot/grub/menu.lst.
I have selected the experimental "do a 3-way merge" of menu.lst when the error
occured. After downgrading to the previous kernel and reinstalling with
selecting another option for menu.lst (-> keeping the previous version of
menu.lst) everything worked fine.
