Just to confuse things even more... Since I created the original bug report I've not witnessed the behavior EXCEPT when I have the laptop plugged in w/ battery and connected to a 2nd monitor with Xinerma enabled. I have a feeling that, in that situation, the temperature increase is probably more due to the video card working extra hard for dual-monitor rather than any CPU freq scaling issues.
