I think the problem may be different, though. When I got to submitting
the report, I discovered that the crash was for apport itself, not for
gedit:

File "/usr/share/apport/apport-gtk", line 18, in <module>
import apport.ui
ImportError: No module named ui
This appears to be from when I was trying to run apport by hand, so
perhaps this bug is invalid.
