I am running ubuntu 8.10 64 bit with 5 partitions, 4 of which are encrypted
with dmcrypt

/boot
Encrypted:
/var/log
/home
/
swap
I have had 8.10 for a long time and it has worked great, i don't reboot
often, but when i do, it never failed to ask for 4 passwords (first 2
rather early on, the other 2 a bit later, so i'm guessing something like
/ & swap first, then /home & /var/log later).
However, today it stopped working, it would still ask for the first two
passwords, then continue to boot, then when the third dialogue window
came up, it began spewing a crapload of "*" signs, then after a few
seconds of doing that, i got thrown a shell with an fsck error saying it
could find /dev/mapper/sdc6_crypt, therefor it was not a valid partition
etc.
To me it seemed that there was an error mounting it rather then an
actual problem on the partition, so i tried to mount it manually from
the shell and it worked, could browse it, read it etc. I rebooted again
to see if the problem would magically resolve itself, but it did not.
The third time, instead of selecting the default boot option, which
indicates 2.6.27-14-generic, i opted for 2.6.27-11-generic, and lo and
behold, it worked, i got prompted again for all the passwords and it
booted without a problem.
