I think I've got the same bug on my Toshiba A120 - and i'm happy to provide whatever info is required.
On my machine, I can switch users, but after logging in as the second user I cannot use the mouse (touchpad on laptop)... so it appears as if the system has stopped responding (as original reporter said), but I can infact do alt-F2 open a terminal etc etc. So, if there's any info I can provide, just let me know. (Guessing the touchpad has not been freed for use by previous user?)
