I prefer using the Gnome text editor as root as follows:

Bring up a Run dialog by pressing <alt> + F2
Type:
   gksu gedit
 (and use File > Open)

Or directly type:
  gksu gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Enter your password when prompted to edit the file as root user.
