Could someone interested try if Fedora Core 6 works correctly with
Driver "ati" and no MonitorLayout specifying? It supposedly has the same
(but early version) of "autoconfiguration" branch of X.org which is
planned to be included in Ubuntu 7.04, solving some problems.

If you really want to fix the problem properly and for sure, the only
option is just to take the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver code from GIT
address shown at http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86
-video-ati.git;a=summary and try to fix the upstream bug yourself,
providing patch in the bug that is linked from there. I don't think
there is any current active developer who has the problematic hardware
and is working on it.
