There seems to be always another thing taking precedence over this.
Essentially the better way to go forward would be to get the in-kernel
driver working. I saw comments about the driver in 2.6.29 being better
in that. If that is the case it probably is worth looking at whether
this can be backported to Jaunty (for Intrepid there is no chance for
that kind of change). We not got mainline kernels at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds, which can be installed in
parallel to the current kernel. If a recent kernel can be verified to be
working, then it would be simpler to find the necessary changes.
