Public bug reported:
Pulseaudio stops playing sound and starts hogging the cpu with regular
intervals since updating to karmic. After hogging around for a bit it
dies, only to be revived like a Phoenix a few moments later. This new
instance will play sound for a bit but eventually it also fails (rinse,
repeat).
Running pulseaudio -v in a terminal gives the following insight:

pulseaudio -vvv adds loads of these to the mix:

In other words, pulseaudio self-destroys because it is hogging the CPU.
That in itself is good, the bad bit is what causes this hogging in the
first place. The finger is pointed at alsa here, to be more specific
towards the snd_intel8x0 driver. Then again there are similar reports
about snd_usb_audio and other drivers so it is still possible that the
root cause to this problem lies inside alsa or even pulseaudio itself.
There is nothing interesting in dmesg when these interruptions occur.
