I also have this same problem. The mouse and keyboard freeze up after a few minutes of use. The only think I can do is shut it off the nasty way, since I cannot restart the X server or reboot using the keyboard.
Right now I am going to try to set up an sshd on it so I can log in remotely and try to snoop around and see what is going on. I am running Kubuntu 9.04 on two other (32 bit) machines with no problems. The problem machine is 64 bit. It worked fine with the previous version of Kubuntu.
