I can add that in kernel 2.6.27-7 the same thing happens with the sound but it quickly unfreezes like if the memory was full for a short instant. It happens if there is a sound playing and if a program is opening, for example. The loop is closer to 1/10th of a second instead of a second like in the bug description.
