On irc, someone suggested I do this, and it really helped with video
playback.
Go to System > Pref > Main Menu, Under System
> Prefs, tick Multimedia Systems Selector. Close. Open up
Multimedia Systems Selector, on the Video tab, change the
plugin from autodetect to X Window System (No Xv)
