Sorry, I don't have access to any amd64 systems, I can only build for i386 myself. You might be right in that this bug is only limited to amd64 systems (oh no, I have to go through the 160 comments again :) ) Anyway, if someone else can build amd64 packages and test them, it would still be useful that i386 people verify that the patch does not cause any regressions.
On a related note, it would be great if people posting comments here would read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/AtiDriver and go through the checklist.
