Binary package hint: vmware-player
Ubuntu 6.10, x86.
I tried to install VMware player using standard Ubuntu "add/remove
software" tool. VMware is listed but when I try to select it I get
message:
"VMware player cannot be installed on your computer type (i386)"
"Either the application requires special hardware feature or the vendor decided
to not support your computer type"
I noticed the same problem with several other packages.
$ uname -a
Linux duran 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Tue Dec 5 22:28:26 UTC 2006 i686 GNU/Linux
$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep model
model : 8
model name : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+
