Public bug reported:
When I boot my computer, I expect my network, wireless or otherwise, to
be available when I'm prompted to log in to X. This is the way things
have been since I first started using Ubuntu.
However, with a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04, I am no longer able to use
a network connection when I'm in a failsafe X session, important because
I usually need to install software from the network while in such a
session. However, without any of my network devices available when
logged into such a session, it's very difficult to resolve such
problems.
I have also tested KDE and LXDE, in which I was also entirely unable to
access the network without some initial groping around my system.
To replicate, simply log in to a failsafe X terminal session and attempt
to ping Google. It would help if you're using a laptop to do this.
