Public bug reported:
I have a HP Elitebook 8530w with the following graphics adaptor:

Capabilities: [58] Express Legacy Endpoint, MSI 00
Capabilities: [a0] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit+ Queue=0/0
Enable-
Capabilities: [100] Vendor Specific Information <?>
Kernel driver in use: fglrx_pci
If I go to Hardware Devices in the Gnome menu and activate the ATI
driver. The system is no longer able to present the Gnome login page
(GDM) and instead I get a black/blank screen. I can not do anything but
power off the machine. I cannot go to another console by presseing
Ctrl+Alt+F2. Nothing works.
I am currently running Ubuntu 9.04, but I had the exact same problem in
8.10. Both AMD64. I am real tired of the poor graphics and poor 2D
performance, can you help me?
