Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager
1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu. ubu...@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 9.04 Release: 9.04 ubu...@ubuntu:~$ 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy packagename' or by checking in Synaptic. When using Synaptic Package Manager, to try to see the version of 'update-manager', I get the following error: E: Read error - read (5 Input/output error) E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened. E: _cache->open() failed, please report. 3) What you expected to happen I already installed xubuntu 9.04 from CD successfully and had been using it for a while (getting Updates for various packages etc.). Then the kids got to it. Somehow 'Applications' had been removed from the menus bar at the top and I couldn't access programs. I decided to reinstall (complete fresh install from CD). After running full install, and connecting to the internet, I then ran the Update Manager. Crashed. I expected for the update-manager to be able to update my newly installed system. 4) What happened instead 'E:Read error - read (5 Input/output error), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.' ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Update manager / Synaptic Manager crashes on first use after re-installing xubuntu 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/386891 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
