Hi, the commands that I wanted you to execute are meant to be executed in a 
terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal i think - or just press Alt+F2 
and run gnome-terminal). 
Another thing you could try is booting the old kernel (system core) you used 
before the update. (the update shouldn't have uninstalled it.)
You can use it by rebooting and pressing the <Esc> key when grub asks you so. 
Now select the kernel version with the version number less than the one on top 
of the list.
for example: 
select kernel 2.6.24-23-generic instead of 2.6.24-24-generic

If the kernel update is responsible for breaking your wireless that
might help.
