** Description changed:

  On Ubuntu 8.10

I plugged in my external hard drive and got the Cannot Mount Volume pop-up
error.
Clicking on details reveals a more detailed error message.

  1) There seem to be other bugs which deal with the actual mounting of
external drives so that is not what I am reporting.

  2) The error messaging is not end-user facing and could be significantly
improved. The related actions are not helpful and leave the user with an
error from which there is no obvious path to recovery.

In the short term I suggest that the text in the details area be cleaned
up to make it more legible. The actual text itself could be structured
  more like:

The device you just plugged in cannot be read
  Option 1:
  Option 2:

The actual text of the options can remain the same in the short term.

In the long term it might be nice to redesign this to include some
simpler imagery and language (for example, Mount is new terminology to
many people) as well a more obvious Help button or link. The design
would need a little bit of time and discussion which I am happy to get
involved with if and when there is time.
