I am running Karmic on a Lenovo laptop and an Emachines desktop. Neither
recognize my OfficeJet 4215 as a scanner but printing works fine, even
though HPLIP also does not recognize it.
I have also tried using Xane and the Gnome scanner utility with the same
non-result. Seems that HPLIP may be the problem.
There are no issues at all when I'm running Jaunty.
